The Investigation of Apparent Suicide Driven to the Brink: Risk Factors for Suicide

Description

Any death investigation is very complex and we cannot and must not enter a death scene assuming that we know the cause of death without a proper and thorough investigation. Understanding the risk factors for suicide is an important part of many death investigations.

In this two-hour webinar, students will be able to identify numerous risk factors for suicide and how those factors play a role in a person’s decision to end their own life. The importance of understanding risk factors is two-fold.

  • First, identifying risk factors can help target high-risk individuals for mental health services that may prevent suicide.
  • Second, the lack of risk factors during an investigation is one of the first indicators that the suicide may be a homicide.
  • Case studies will be presented.
