Prisoner Control, Search and Transport
Description
Upon the successful completion of this course the student will be provided with the knowledge and skills to:
- Obtain the requirements to carry a Firearm Onboard Aircraft (Know where and how to obtain the Certification in Compliance with FAA/TSA Regulations)
- Learn leverage techniques and how to control a prisoner in a prone position, while avoiding the neck area.
- Identify characteristics of armed individuals.
- Identify effective common restraints.
- Identify tools and procedures for defeating restraining devices
- Demonstrate the most effective placement of restraining devices
- Perform pre-transport searches of prisoners, buildings, vehicles, planes, etc.
- Complete a transport checklist
- Demonstrate vehicle seating of a suspect for maximum officer safety.
- Utilize alternative light sources, as well as indirect lighting to enhance officer safety.
- Proficiently establish transportation routes for transporting prisoners.
- Complete a plan of action for movement/escorting prisoners outside of your vehicle.
- Be cognitive of a plethora of elements outside of our control, which may negatively impact the transportation of a prisoner and how we can properly address those issues.
- Identify areas of civil liability and case law that are relevant to transporting prisoners.
- Describe the difference between a new arrest and a custodial transport.
- Develop, interpret, and comply with agency transport regulations.
- List/recognize the fatal danger signs during a prisoner transportation.
- Write suitable descriptive reports, in alignment with their departmental policy and procedures.
