Crime Prevention Certification Course
Description
This course is intended to provide a basic understanding of the theory and practice of proactive policing strategies and approaches. Utilizing the combination of adult learner methodologies of multi-media presentations, group exercise and lecture the instructor will prepare the student to utilize the proven techniques of crime prevention in today’s environment. Specifically, the course will provide the practitioner a working knowledge the premise of prevention programs, the process by which they function and common pitfalls resulting in failure. The course is designed to assist the new practitioner in setting up and starting a crime prevention unit as well providing the practitioner the building blocks toward understand how they may create their own successful crime prevention programs in our modern society. The course manual and instruction will provide a resource for the student for years to come.
A basic crime prevention course is required for many of the state and national certifications as a Crime Prevention Specialist.

· History and origins of pro-active policing and prevention
· Community Policing, Problem Oriented Policing, and Crime Analysis links to Crime Prevention
· Crime Prevention in Practice- Crime and Opportunity
· The Crime Prevention Approaches-Everything Old is New Again
· Understanding the Premise and Selecting the Approach (One sized Does Not fit All)
· Overview of specific crime prevention programs; property crime, business crime, fraud, cyber and violence
· Introduction to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
· Overview of Target Hardening (Security hardware and methods employed to defeat them.)
· Statutes and Ordinances as Tools in Prevention
· Security Assessments and Premises Liability
· The Basics of Community Presentations
