It's OK to be Biased

Description

Bias is a natural part of the human experience, rooted in scientific principles and universally present. In our course, "It's OK to be Biased," law enforcement professionals will explore the origins and impacts of bias. Participants will learn that everyone possesses biases, often subconsciously, and how these can influence decision-making and interactions. This insightful training aims to address and mitigate the negative effects of biases in police work.

This course covers:

·       Scientific basis of bias in humans

·       Explicit/Implicit Bias

·       Echo chamber influences

·       Group thinking concept

·       Addressing the “ugly” biases

·       Malcolm Gladwell’s Thin-Slicing decision-making concept

Officers will gain the tools to recognize their own biases, understand their scientific basis, and implement strategies to manage and counteract harmful biases. This course is designed to foster greater self-awareness, empathy, and fair treatment in all aspects of law enforcement, ensuring a more equitable approach to community policing.

This course is Missouri POST Certified for (2) hours of interpersonal perspective including the sub-categories of (1) hour racial profiling legal studies and (1) hour of implicit bias interpersonal perspectives.

The LSAT 12- hour basic training webinar is presented in 4, three-hour blocks over two days. The class will start at 10:00a.m. EST and end at 5:00p.m. EST each day. You will get a 1-hour lunch break each day.
