Eyewitness Identification & Lineup Procedures - Webinar

Description

Eyewitnesses play a critical role in our criminal justice system. They are often essential to identifying, charging, and ultimately convicting perpetrators of crime and in some cases may provide the sole piece of evidence against those individuals.

In cases in which DNA testing has exonerated individuals convicted based on eyewitness testimony emphasizes the importance of accurate and reliable eyewitness evidence.

This course will provide students with a knowledge and understanding of how the implementation of recommended protocols, best practices, and training can improve the accuracy and reliability of eyewitness evidence.

This course will cover the following topics.

  1. Review latest research, recommendations, and protocols.
  2. Understand the difference between the Simultaneous Lineup and Sequential Lineup
  3. How to use a live lineup and understand its pros and cons.
  4. Know the proper steps and legal requirements in conducting a one-on-one lineup where we show a single individual to a victim or witness.
  5. Learn the three methods of showing a photo lineup non-blind v. Blinded v. Double Blind.
  6. Students will be provided information that will enable them to develop an admonishment (instruction) form for their agency.
