Managing Missing Persons Events

Description

This course will focus on the management of a missing/lost person incident and challenge the participant’s mental and management abilities in a fun, hands-on learning environment. Students will learn real world, tried and true methods of searching and locating missing/lost persons. Topics discussed will include a search and rescue (SAR) vulnerability assessment, SAR statistics, SAR management and resources, briefing and debriefing, tactical actions, SAR resource types, Incident Command System, investigations, organizing an incident, determining search urgency, lost person behavior, establishing the search area, and external influences such as media, family members, etc. The first day will involve lecture and hands-on search management tools. The second day will consist of additional search management tools and presenting real world case studies for the students to organize and manage a missing person event.
