Please be aware that this class is a 20-hour training. Therefore, the first two days of training will be 8am-5pm local time. The last day will be 8am-12pm local time.
NOTE: THIS COURSE COVERS THE SAME MATERIAL THAT IS INCLUDED IN THE DETECTIVE AND NEW CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR COURSE.
This 2.5 day class is designed for the Patrol Officer or New Investigator with limited experience responding to crimes of physical and sexual violence.
As a result of this training, the attendee will gain a comprehensive view of sex crimes, death scenes, common injuries of violence, suicide, and crime scene considerations dealing with the 4th Amendment. Additionally, the subject of "The 10 Most Common Investigative Pitfalls" officers make during investigations will be the initial starting point in this presentation.
Perspectives from actual cases will give insight to the motives of sexual perpetrators including the area of the (sexually) violent juvenile. Investigative strategies will be offered for examining and understanding deviant sexual behavior.
Aspects of trauma and injuries will be highlighted for officer understanding of the potential evidence from the crime scene. The attendee will gain knowledge of thermal injuries, dental marks, track evidence, weather factors, blood, hanging vs. strangulation, and shaken baby syndrome. Also reviewed are firearm injuries, blunt force trauma, sharp force, and cutting wounds, along with time of death estimations (rigor, algor & livor mortis).
