Sex Offenders Against Children: Causation, Typology, Investigating, Monitoring and Recidivism

Sexual abuse of children is alarmingly frequent. Children are vulnerable, making them easy targets for sexual predators. What makes a sex offender who preys on prepubescent children (pedophile) or preys on teens (hebephile) tick? Why do they prey on children? Sex offenders who prey on children are misunderstood based on their typologies and causations classifying them; however, understanding a sex offender against children involves many more factors, such as their genetics, mental well-being, cognitive factors, life experiences, and more. As a result, sex offenders against children are not cookie cutters, and no case is the same. Therefore, these sex offenders are not like other sex offenders and cannot be categorized among other sex offenders. Thus, to not only protect children but to investigate and catch sex offenders against children, we must understand the how and why.

This course provides tons of knowledge and interviewing skill development to understand sex offenders against children. This course will assist an investigator in understanding what causes a child predator, their typologies, how to investigate them, what type of monitoring is best, and why they recidivate. This course will focus primarily on pedophiles, hebephiles, and their victims. In discussing typologies, investigators will learn about their personality traits, cognitive distortions, and impulsivity in providing a broader understanding of the psycho-criminogenic factors and not just a typology. Lastly, this course discusses tools predators use to lure/groom their child victims and how they choose their victim, such as social media gaming platforms, and discusses networking amongst other sex offenders against children on the surface and dark web. This course comprises case studies and examples of dark web chat rooms, surface and dark web social media and gaming platforms, cell phone applications, investigative tools, ICAC, NCMEC, and more.
