Description
This course is composed to assist the School Resource Officer in becoming familiar with day-to-day operations of a school.
The four-part roll of an SRO: Law enforcement - Informal counselor – Educator - Emergency Manager
This course covers topics to include: Communications, what is getting SRO’s in trouble, interviewing juveniles, Pipeline to Prison Theory, Memorandum of understanding, Crime prevention through environmental design, and De-escalation skill.
Legal issues in schools: Search & arrest, use of force, freedom of speech, and Miranda.
This course will cover the day-to-day operations of a school resource officer to include: School threats, bomb threats, active shooter, lockdown drills, traffic safety, special events, social media, training, tour of duty, bullying, child custody, truancy, restorative justice, alternative sentencing, and drugs & alcohol.
Participants will develop and implement plans for physical security. Participants will complete a site assessment of a school and evaluate current security practices and identify strategies to enhance school security.
