Understanding Abnormal Behaviors

Description

Abnormal psychology at the root, refers to the study of behaviors and mental illnesses that are unusual and atypical- out of societal norms or expectations. Deviant behavior are behaviors or actions that go against social norms or expectations- any behavior(s) that violates social norms or formal laws is considered deviant behaviors. 

Class participants will explore common atypical behaviors that they may approach in the line of duty. Common abnormal behaviors that will be explored will include those that are symptoms in schizophrenia, antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, bipolar, and PTSD. This includes hallucinations-visual, audio, commanding, olfactory and tactile and the dangers of command hallucinations. This course will also touch on suicide.
