Disaster Response
Description
Law enforcement has a unique job where rather fleeing from emergency, they run towards it. As a first responder, law enforcement is tasked with preparing for and responding to multiple types of disasters to some degree while implementing diverse knowledge. Public safety is a day-to-day role while supporting the community. This course provides insight and overview of different types of disasters; natural and man-made. Class participants will focus on trauma responsive practices, ethics in disaster response, diversity in trauma and disaster response. Class participants will learn to perform a rapid assessment of damage to determine needs for the emergency phase of the disaster and how to perform a risk assessment to work with and in the community during post disaster, identifying environmental hazards and vulnerable populations.
