Police Use of Force: Survival in the 21st Century

Description

BANG! It just happened. You had to use reasonable force in a critical line of duty event. Offenders assault tens of thousands of police officers every year so the use of force is a reality that we must prepare for and be ready when we put on the uniform. Patrol tactics are crucial, but so are Left of Bang and Right of Bang tactics that allow us to survive, not only physically, but professionally and personally in the 21st Century. This three-hour webinar begins by exploring practical patrol tactics, so we go home at the end of the shift.

We discuss the top “fatal errors” that have cost fellow officers their lives as well as several concepts that connect in use of force events. The psychology behind the use of force is explained in detail which allows the street cop to mentally prepare for use of force events. It is imperative to understand how the brain processes input in critical incidents.

We debunk common myths and misconceptions that have found their way into police work.

Our goal is to avoid the use of force when we can, so de-escalation tactics are presented as key parts of use of force events. The course introduces the ARMs Model which has been proven to reduce use of force events.

Case histories will be reviewed as we apply the concepts we have learned.

The student will gain confidence and improve critical-tactical decision-making processes with this training session.

This course is Missouri POST Approved for 1 hour of technical studies, 1 hour of interpersonal studies, and 1 hour of legal studies with 1 hour in the subcategory of de-escalation.
